Can I pay Zakat even if I am poor?
To be eligible to pay Zakat, you must possess the minimum required wealth, known as the nisab, at the time of giving. If your wealth is below the nisab, you are not required to pay Zakat.
Zakat is based on accumulated wealth, not monthly income, so it applies if your savings exceed the nisab threshold—even if your income is low. For those not required to pay Zakat, giving Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is a meaningful alternative.
