Adeel's Story

Rays of Hope – How Community Uplifted Adeel

When war tore through Syria, Adeel lost more than his home — he lost his beloved wife, who was martyred in the conflict. Overwhelmed by grief and fearing for his children’s safety, he made the painful decision to flee his homeland. With courage and hope, Adeel sought refuge in Canada, dreaming of rebuilding life from the ruins of loss.

But the struggle did not end upon his arrival.

Still in deep shock, Adeel found it difficult to care for his children while navigating an unfamiliar country. The pain of losing his spouse weighed heavily, and financial challenges only made life harder. Though a permanent resident, Adeel wasn’t receiving childcare benefits for his children. At the same time, he was attending English classes, determined to improve his skills and find work — but every day felt like a race against time and exhaustion.

Amid all this, a glimmer of hope arrived when Adeel met an NZF volunteer at a local masjid. Through your generous donations, National Zakat Foundation Canada was able to support Adeel by covering almost five months of rent. For the first time since his arrival, Adeel found relief — the kind that allows a grieving father to take a breath, find strength, and focus on his children once again.

While 25% of Canadians worry about meeting their basic needs, that concern rises to 40% among single-parent households. For families like Adeel’s, your support is more than charity — it’s a lifeline. (Salvation Army)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement.”
(Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 1930, Book 27, Hadith 36)

Just as the Ansāar supported the Prophet ﷺ and those who sought refuge in Madinah, you too can stand beside your brothers and sisters in need.

Be the Ansār today.
