Sadaqah is voluntary charity given for the sake of Allah, bringing reward to the giver while supporting those in need. Its true beauty lies in its power to uplift and empower the lives of the most vulnerable in our community.
Covers a family's utilities and bills for one month, ensuring access to water, heat and electricity
Provides a family with food and groceries for one month, keeping them free from hunger and protecting their well-being
Help subsidize a family's rent for one month, saving them from eviction
When you give your Sadaqah to NZF, your kindness uplifts those who need it most while strengthening our ability to serve communities across Canada. Your support reaches families and individuals facing financial hardship—single parents, seniors, refugees, and newly arrived families from Gaza—helping them meet urgent needs with dignity.

You can help participants build halal, sustainable livelihoods in three ways:
Sadaqah is voluntary charity given for the sake of Allah.
Sadaqah can be given at any time. There is no minimum amount or fixed schedule. Many people choose to give regularly, as consistency in good deeds is encouraged in Islam:
“The most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if it is small (in amount).” (Bukhari)
Your Sadaqah supports eligible individuals and families in Canada experiencing financial hardship, including single parents, seniors, newcomers, and others struggling to meet basic needs.
Yes. All eligible donations to NZF Canada receive a charitable tax receipt.
Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Protect yourself from the Fire, even if it is with half a date.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Zakat is the obligatory annual charity due from every eligible Muslim who meets the minimum wealth threshold (nisab). It is set at 2.5% of one’s qualifying wealth and must be distributed to specific categories of people outlined in Islam. Zakat is a pillar of Islam, a right of the poor, and a means of purifying one’s wealth. Failing to pay Zakat is considered a serious sin in Islam.
Sadaqah, by contrast, is voluntary charity. It may be given at any time, in any amount, and in many forms. Sadaqah includes financial giving as well as acts of kindness, service, and good conduct. As taught by the Prophet ﷺ, every person can give Sadaqah in some way, according to their ability. This means that while all Zakat is a form of Sadaqah, not all Sadaqah is Zakat.
With this distinction in mind, NZF Canada administers Zakat and Sadaqah separately, ensuring each is distributed according to its specific Islamic guidelines.
The Qur’an and hadith describe Sadaqah as a source of reward, forgiveness of sins, and increased barakah. Sadaqah is also mentioned as a means of protection on the Day of Judgement and a cause for wealth not being diminished.
In practical terms, Sadaqah helps meet immediate needs within the community by supporting individuals and families facing financial hardship.
