Building Stronger Communities

Across Canada, poverty is affecting more people as the cost of living rises and incomes fail to keep pace. In 2023, Canada’s poverty rate was estimated at just over 10%, representing millions of people struggling to afford a basic standard of living. (Statistics Canada)  

Rising housing, food, and transportation costs mean that more households are falling below Canada’s Official Poverty Line, even if at least one person is working. Many low‑income families report that unexpected bills or rent increases can quickly push them into crisis. (Food Banks Canada)

Within this broader picture, many Muslims in Canada face additional economic barriers, including wage gaps, underemployment, and discrimination in hiring. Community studies show that Muslim households are more likely to fall below low‑income thresholds than non‑Muslim households, despite having high levels of education and community engagement. Newcomers, refugees, single parents, and racialized Muslims are especially vulnerable, often contending with high housing costs, limited savings, and fewer support networks. Housing, Essentials, and Who You Helped

A major share of your Zakat and Sadaqah went toward keeping families safely housed and meeting essential needs.

• 1,540,957 dollars distributed for housing, helping 1,709 people maintain shelter and avoid eviction.

• 214,045 dollars distributed for essentials, supporting 612 people with utilities, clothing, transportation, and other basic needs.

Behind these numbers are real people in our community:  

• 297+ single parents

• 3,841 newcomers and refugees

• 117+ seniors

• 2,358 children

• 150 orphans

Emergency and Special Programs

In 2025, your support also reached those facing crises and special seasonal needs.  

• 661 evacuees were supported, representing 193 families, with $825,370 distributed across 72+ cities.  

• 512 children were equipped with back‑to‑school essentials, and additional families received winter essentials and 1,360 Eid gifts.  

• Through Feed Our Neighbours, $1,175,804 was distributed, helping 3,095 people, with 10,567 iftar meals shared, 1,429 Ramadan food boxes delivered, and 853+ Qurbani packages provided.  

• Approximately $40,000 was also raised for winter support, with distributions currently underway to help families stay safe and warm throughout the season.
