Understanding National Zakat Foundation's Zakat Assistance Program

Similar to Masajid that uphold the pillar of Salah, over the last ten years, we have worked to build NZF as an institution that upholds the pillar of Zakat right here in Canada.

Local Zakat is our only goal, at National Zakat Foundation Canada, we dedicate all our resources to ensuring your Zakat is managed in adherence with the Quran and Sunnah.

Our Zakat assistance program has a meticulous distribution process in place to ensure your Zakat obligation will be fulfilled with diligence, providing dignity to the most vulnerable in our community.

We are one of the only Muslim charities who don’t rely on partners to distribute Zakat, we manage the entire process from collection to distribution internally, meaning you can place your trust in us to manage your Zakat with perfection.

Since inception we have scaled our Zakat distribution across +230 cities in Canada, transforming the lives of over 50,000 vulnerable Muslims, including single mothers, refugees, those living with disabilities and the elderly.

Our Zakat Assistance Program Explained

1. APPLICATION

An individual undergoing financial hardship contacts National Zakat Foundation by applying for Zakat

2. INTAKE

Our intake team requests the client for identification, financial information and other relevant documents.

3. CASE ANALYSIS

Once the required information is collected from the applicant, the caseworker analyzes their needs and Zakat eligibility in accordance with our guidelines based on the Quran and Sunnah.

4. RECOMMENDATION

An assigned caseworker makes recommendations to an expert panel on how much Zakat assistance should be provided to the applicant based on their income, assets, expenses and eligibility of government-assisted services.

5. PANEL

A panel comprising of a Distribution Manager and Zakat experts evaluate the caseworker's recommendation and make a decision.

6. ZAKAT RECIPIENT

1. Zakat is paid to the applicant.

2. Recipient is connected to relevant resources for further support.

3. Follow-up with assigned caseworker after one month to review self-sufficiency plan.
